10 Favorite Books
Recently, I was asked to list 10 books that have left an impression on me. Many of the writers in the list are connected through common interests and influences. Rushdie, Eco, and Calvino were all influenced by Borges and are magical realists. Some have concerned their writings with expressing moral and social issues. They have not been afraid to criticize injustice despite the wrath of those who would do them harm. I love every one of these books and am excited to share my top ten list with you.
- Labyrinths, Jorge Luis Borges
- Midnight’s Children, Salmon Rushdie
- Slaughterhouse-Five, Kurt Vonnegut
- Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov
- East of Eden, John Steinbeck
- Infinite Jest, David Foster Wallace [currently reading]
- The Satanic Verses, Rushdie
- In the Name of the Rose, Umberto Eco
- Lamb: the Gospel According to Biff, Christopher Moore
- If on a winter’s night a traveler, Italo Calvino
For your convenience, I have linked each book to its Amazon page for purchasing. Feel free to write back if you have enjoyed any of these books. Happy reading!
